Adventure
Hollow Lantern
★★★★☆ 4.3
Hollow Lantern is a slow, atmospheric adventure you play mostly by tapping to move and interact. You explore a foggy town where something clearly went wrong, piecing together the story from notes, objects, and gentle environmental puzzles. It's more about mood than challenge.
The art carries it. Every scene is a little painting, and the sound design — creaking wood, distant wind — does a lot of heavy lifting. Puzzles are logical rather than obtuse; I only got stuck once, and the answer was staring at me the whole time.
It's short, maybe three or four hours, and I think that's the right length. It doesn't overstay its welcome or pad itself with backtracking, which on mobile I really appreciated.
What we liked
- Gorgeous hand-painted scenes
- Fair, logical puzzles
- A tight three-to-four-hour story
